After all, players can find it difficult to keep possession of the ball and advance up the pitch, especially against a team who applies a high-pressing game.
So, this football training drill is designed to help your team maintain possession and move the ball higher up the pitch.
Training drill Set-Up
- 6v4 + GK
- Blues begin with one player in each end zone & two players in the central zone.
- The red team begin with two players in each zone (plus+ a goalkeeper at each end of the pitch)
Description:
- Reds play 2 + Gk v 1 in the end zone, & try to advance the ball through the zones & back.
- The red team must remain in their zones except for one defender who can step into the central zone from the end zone where the ball is being played.
- One of the blue midfield players can decide to help the striker press the ball by stepping into the end zone to make it 2+Gk v 2.
Key:
Black line = Direction of the ball
Black dotted line = Dribbling the ball
Yellow dotted line = Player movement
