Rondos

Coaching Xtra

Rondos have become a staple in most team’s training sessions over recent years. The impact of Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, in which the principles that apply to a rondo played a key role in establishing the team’s style of play, has been felt around the world.

So the question is, why are rondos so important to a coach like Guardiola and what is rondo’s relevance in a match?

Rondo’s are not simply fun games for when players are arriving but instead they are supposed to be performed with maximum concentration levels, whilst testing the player’s technical ability and tactical awareness.

One of the great things about rondos is that there are so many variations which can add a number of tactical elements to the game that a team can transfer into a game situation.
